We are extremely upset by our experience at Bass Haven.
We booked 3 nights at Bass Haven but left during the second night after some of our belongings were stolen while we were asleep.

Because of severe winds, we moved our tent under the lapa and placed our items next to us. We went to bed at 11:00 pm, and at around 2:00 am discovered items were missing. The wind was so loud we would never have heard anything being moved.

Bass Haven later confirmed on camera footage that a perpetrator with a large dog stole our belongings. We were told we would be compensated and asked for the value of the items, but after that communication stopped. We were later told the police must catch the perpetrator to recover the items.

No compensation and no refund were offered for the night we were forced to leave due to safety concerns. This campsite is not safe, and we will not return.

2nd year leaving venue with amazing new memories. Stunning views, clean grounds, and lovely river for cooling down. This is most definitely the most amazing camping spot for the whole family, would recommend without a 2nd thought

Our stay was wonderful, and everything was well thought out from the start! Check-in was seamless, and the house was impressively prepared with essentials like bug spray, 2-ply toilet paper, fly ribbons, and even two fans. We were also welcomed with a lovely bottle of wine and milk, which was a nice touch.

The location right on the river is perfect for fishing, and while the couches were a bit different from the pictures and slightly worn, they didn’t impact our stay since we spent most of our time outdoors. The fireplace was a real highlight—huge, cozy, and the host provided plenty of wood. We also appreciated the strong water pressure, abundant hot water, and fresh, comfortable bedding.

The only challenge was the number of flies; not sure if this is typical for the area, but I’d recommend bringing citronella candles and extra bug spray (available at the Spar in Tulbagh). Overall, we had a fantastic time and would absolutely recommend this place for a relaxing getaway!

Had a fantastic weekend at campsite 1. Dogs had an absolute blast, the other campsite is far enough away the felt like we had the place to ourselves. Campsite had everything we could need for a weekend away; large green lawn, access to the river, power points, tables, braai drums with grids and private bathrooms with hot water. We will definitely be back,
