We enjoyed ourselves very much. The river next to campsite and everything you need. Electricity, warm showers, and a BIG fire pit. You also have loose braais for a more private evening. Definitely worth it.

What a lovely relaxing weekend we had at Skilpadfontein Private Campsite.
Nice lush green lawn with shade, there is even a corrugated dam to cool off in.
There are sandy sites on the river bank but enough space on the grass if you are not up for that.
The river runs past the camp site but the water level was low , we were before warned by management of that so we were not expecting more.
The ablution blocks are nice and clean, we did share a unit with our camp buddies but that was not a problem for us. "
If you need a nice break a hour out of Cape Town go and enjoy a safe and relaxing camping experience there.
We enjoy camping not GLAMPING".
Please "Go Wild" and enjoy a peaceful weekend away from the rut of every day live.

Not nice.power point are not located in good spots.no water tapes in actual camp sites. Ablutions are set far from camp sites.one must bring own drinking water and take rubbish away with you.no lights around camp site.showers are terrible.

We enjoyed our weekend camp at Skilpadfontein in Feb. It was a very hot weekend with wind. The wind actually helped with cooling us off and we had very little flies and mosquitoes.
There is a limited amount of sites and it caters well for a group of friends that wants some privacy.
There was sufficient shade alongside the river and also nice open spaces where kids could play. Most of the shaded sites is on the riverbank and has no gras.
The Lapa is great for braai time and the site has nice views of the surrounding mountains and vinyards
We camped at a time when the river ran very low so we could not use it for swimming but had access to one of the dams on the farm which is close to the campsite and enjoyable for a swim with its clear water. To manage expectations it is important to enquire from management as to the level of the river and if you would have access to the dam or not. If you enjoy a bush camp experience the campsite delivers. However if you are more into glamping than camping then this is not the place for you.
I would recommend that you bring your own toilet paper and drinking water.
