Our recent stay in the Tankwa Karoo was a truly unique and memorable experience. Located on the border of the Tankwa Karoo National Park and about four hours' drive from Cape Town, the journey includes a significant stretch of gravel road, so it's highly advisable to have a 4x4 vehicle for the trip.
The cottage we stayed in had no electricity or geyser, which added to the rustic charm of the place. Hot water was made with a fire and the fridge ran off an inverter. Despite the simplicity, all necessary amenities were thoughtfully provided, including braai equipment, general cutlery, crockery, towels, and fresh linen.
One of the highlights of our stay was the endless, spectacular views. The remote location offers unparalleled star gazing at night, making it a perfect spot for astronomy enthusiasts or anyone looking to disconnect and enjoy the natural beauty. ⭐️🌠💫
For hot days, there was a small outdoor tub where we could take a refreshing dip.
Given the area, we encountered quite a few insects, so bringing along insect repellent or Doom is recommended. Additionally, the mornings and evenings can get very cold, so packing a jacket or an extra blanket is essential.
The resort is dog-friendly, provided arrangements are made upfront and pets sleep in their own bed (not provided). The privacy of the cottage allowed us to relax fully and the booking process was smooth and pleasant. The owners were incredibly friendly and accommodating, enhancing our overall experience.
In summary, Ymansdam offers a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, with its stunning views, serene environment and welcoming hospitality.
We would definitely visit again!
