De Voetpadkloof Resort

Our group of 8 visited for 3 nights staying in 4 safari tents. We loved our accommodation and enjoyed the klipspringer visits. The picnic under the huge lapa on the dam was great at sunset but the highlight for us was our 4x4 game drive. We enjoyed an early swim in the hot indoor pool. There is a supermarket with all the basic camping needs as well as a restaurant and bar.

Campsites are nice, ablution is clean.
But why they say they have heated pools is beyond me, even the indoor heated pool is ice cold (and I've seen other reviews say the same, so it wasn't just this once)
Pools aren't very clean either.
Very limited space to sit around the swimming pools, and the same people put their gazebos on the spaces the night before, so we had nowhere to even sit.
They only tell you that the waterpark is extra on the email after you've already paid.
Bathroom at the indoor swimming pool is actually gross, doesn't look like it's ever cleaned.
Restaurant takes like 2 hours to make easy take away meals. Shop doesn't even have fresh milk and has very limited stuff.
We won't be returning as there are many campsites that are way better. We actually went home a day earlier than we paid for.

Secure well maintained beautiful place to visit. Loved the warm water outside pool and hot under roof pool. Food at the little restaurant/ tea garden was fresh and tasty but the prices shown on menu were not the prices we paid. Apparently prices shown were outdated. Another thing which we found odd was we ordered a orange juice and when it was presented to us, we felt it was not worth the price so we opted for milkshske instead. The cashier was visibly annoyed and told he colleagues, whilst we were still in ear shot, " kan jy nou die mense glo, hulle wil nie Rx betaal vir n juice nie maar hulle sal meer betaal vir n milkshake" we found that comment unnecessarily as other people including our family members also heard it.
That aside, the staff were very friendly and professional. The grounds and pools were kept neat and clean and we were pleasantly surprised to see the security staff patrol all hours of the night. It added to our piece of mind.
We were in a tented cabin as best that i can describe it. Quite unique but very well equipped with everything you would need for self catering, including a counter top 2 plate stove / oven and small microwave and kettle. Comfortable double bed and two single beds. Nice clean bathroom with good size shower. It had a mounted fan but no air conditioner.
The one difficulty we had was with parking. There is a small designated area of reserved parking for the people in the tents but although well marked as reserved, we found on more than one occasion having to find alternative parking as all the spots were taken by people in caravan sites and or their guests. One night we have to park on a open caravan site close to the main road and hike all the way back in the rain. Hoping to have a lay in the next day, we gad to get up early and go back to our car in care someone had booked the site and find parking even further away as the reseved parking was still taken by other people. I wished they could implement better control of the reseved parking area. Also you will drive over 1 km of dirt road from the main gate to the admin block. The huge amount of stunning game make the drive a pleasure but at night in the rain it was quite a challenge. Also the main gate is close to the main tar road of the Kranskloof pass and you gain access via security code. There are security cameras and it well lite at night but still we felt unsafe there until we were well into the resorts grounds as the area at the gate does not have a security officer and looking around you have very poor visiblity as it is after all, unspoilt land for game with tall grass.

Love it, peace and quiet, will visit them for a week or three every year. I must say it is not noisy with music that wants to make your eardrums burst or information speakers that gets to a point of annoyance, it just peace and quiet.

Wildlife is well looked after and the area is stocked with controlled number of wild life. I'm a real big fan of animals and the "klipspringertjies" is beautiful and amazing to see. I would just liked to see parents taking charge to prevent the children from chasing them or attempting to to box them in. Birdlife is out of this word, I even had a "Piet my vrou" that came and sit down on the table across of me with no fear in the world to visit or say high😀😁😃.

As a camper - my stand was kept clean by the cleaning staff. I had daily visits from the resort supervisor, just to know if everything is still fine at my stand and if I still enjoing my stay and was always friendly and willing to know, what they can do for us or what they can do more or even better to service me and my family as the customer.

I always had excellent service and, security is always active and friendly to ensure the safety of everyone and their belongings.

Bathroom was always kept clean as expected by a 5 ⭐ resort.

On the safety side

The small shop has wheel chair provision/ accommodation and a small stairway but -⚠️ no hand rail to split the two and to give visitors that 3 point contact safety support should someone loose their balance/ footing or support to go up and down into the shop or to the pay point.

As mentioned, it is a very small shop with the very bear minimum stock, depending on your needs, from person to person and cannot cater for everything and everyone's needs.

On the stand I was on at no 17, 18 and 19, there was no water taps, but the co-ordenator informed me that it is in the pipeline to get it in, as there is a pipeline that needs replacing due to aging.

Maintenance was ñ bit slow, but understandable as it is the holiday season at the time of a pipe that burst.

I must just say this, the water from the taps and bathroom facilities is really clean and tasty - job well done to the water management team.

On the water rides:

I will recommend more water onto the supertube rides. Bigger people is getting stuck because there is not enough water to go down with. You need more water to have more force to stop at the bottom and that was a shortfall.

The silicone links of the supertube rides are not user friendly at this stage, as the support glaze is warn off that does, hurt people that goes down the rides on their backs, leave painful marks and loss of some back hair - if you are as hairy as I am 😂😂😂

I am big and fat and once I went down, there were not enough water for the people behind me, to use as force to stop, witch resulted in some people getting injured. Apologies for the people that came down the ride behind me😌.

An lightning warning can be an advantage at the water park area, that will give warning to kids to get out of the water in an event where a storm is coming in, to prevent possible natural weather (lightning ⚡ electrocution).

But for the rest of De Voetpadkloof, I would not change a thing. Unless you want more lucheries that will chase cost to stay there - for example a netted car port for a Bakkie or any form of vehicle if there is no shade to protect your valuable vehicle against the sun or an hail storm. The option of a bigger braai for bigger families at the caravan stands, and so thorth

The restaurant food is really very tasty and well priced for an holiday resort.

The road from the entrance sliding gate to reception is getting some maintenance after big rains and their is places to give people chances to pass each other safely on the narrow gravel road, especially people with big vehicles (Campers and really big caravans) but, I still believe some paving will keep that farm/ nature reserve feeling that will bring down maintenance cost and depending on the road conditions, wear and tear on vehicles and caravans, to and from the sliding gate to reception.

A Tranquil and Enjoyable Family Getaway

We had a lovely time at De Voetpadkloof Resort. The facilities were clean and generally well-maintained. The gravel road leading to the main office is manageable—low vehicles should proceed with a bit of caution, but SUVs and bakkies will have no issue at all.

The resort offers a variety of family-friendly activities including fishing, putt-putt, and both hot and cold pools. The children especially enjoyed the four different water slides. There are also several other activities available, making it a great destination for both kids and adults.

The camping sites appeared neat and well-laid out, and the grounds overall were in good condition. The natural plant growth around the resort adds to the peaceful and scenic atmosphere. The lawns and gardens are well-manicured and contribute positively to the environment.

The restaurant and bar are fairly average, and the small convenience shop—along with the attached liquor store—covers the basics. One point for improvement would be the changing rooms near the hot water pool. It would be ideal to include showers inside and ensure they are better maintained.

The resort was peaceful, not overcrowded or noisy, and our family felt safe and relaxed throughout our stay. All in all, a very pleasant experience and a place we would consider returning to.
