Olifants River Lodge

Well for starters they forget to inform you about a 7km dirt road that your standard car will battle with. Then we move over to the front desk - (special mention) we have a woman who has no idea what she is doing. Then let's move onto the rooms. If you enjoy sharing you bed with cockroaches this is the place for you. The rooms are outdated and the aircons they promise you on bookingdot.com must have been imagined. Then yes the views are stunning and the pools are great. So there are some saving graces. Then there's a shop here that is a complete rip off. We had no power but then they make sure there bar has power. When you ask them to put on the generators they happy to tell you it will come on 8pm -10pm then that's all. I would NOT recommend coming here. It's such a shame because this place has huge potential.

While the establishment is in need of maintenance this is still one of our family's favorite holiday venues. Safe for kids to be left to keep themselves occupied. Nothing like their indoor pools - one cold and the other warm - to keep the whole family entertained. Other activities also available like put put, electric scooter for hire, fishing rod for hire, pool tables, table tennis, etc. Beautiful setting and worth being called "God’s Valley". Hope to visit many more times in the future.

It is a very chilled place to be in
My concerns though were about their rooms, they have ants of which I think they can be controlled or treated.
During our stay there seemed to be some sound very early in the morning that woke us up, not pleased with that coz most of us are there to rest and take it easy.
Otherwise the place is really nice and quiet without the sound,,, kids friendly, my stand out was the river that flows via the place. The receptionist that welcomed us was very polite and nice, Thank you ausi (I forgot her name)
Oh their restaurant waitress and waiters??? Friendly, very welcoming people and the food is nice, doable not very expensive
So yah we enjoyed the food as a whole😉

This place is the best!
The campsites are lovely and are so well taken care of.
The staff are Amazing, Precious at the restaurant was so friendly and made us feel very welcome.
Nelly the cleaner was so nice and we had a great chat while she was cleaning the bathroom!

The view and location is beautiful, BUT....
There are a few things that need urgent attention and more management presence.

1. The grass should of been cut a long time ago not a day before Christmas and expect campers to move their things. Plan ahead or cut areas once campers leave.

2. Ablutions are not up to standard. Lighting is minimal, water drains slowly due to clogged drains in the showers causing it to well up. There is also no soap available to wash hands.

3. Indoor pool was average, only the top part was warmish. Middle section lacked heat and a lot of maintenance with the floor and sides flaking. Would like to see an outdoor heated pool as well. The outdoor pools, slides and children's play area is great.

4. Lack of management and/or enforcement of rules. On Christmas day one could not enter the indoor pool or enjoy the outdoor activities due to certain guests not abiding to any of the rules set out by the resort. Especially with minimal to very exposing swimwear(or rather sleepwear), one cannot simply expose one's family to such improper exposure. Not addressing guests who transgressed tells me management approves such behaviour.

Will visit the resort again if the above can be addressed and be improved on.
