De Akker Campsite

De Akker Campsite offers a peaceful and spacious escape nestled within a working citrus and rooibos farm just 12 kilometers outside Citrusdal. Surrounded by the striking Cederberg mountains and fragrant orange orchards, the camp is a sanctuary of fresh mountain air and wide-open horizons. The atmosphere is quiet and restorative, making it a favorite for those who want to disconnect from the hustle of city life while remaining within easy reach of the scenic Olifants River Valley.

The camping experience is grounded and unique, featuring a large, open lawn area shaded by majestic trees. Unlike traditional resorts, there are no marked camping sites, allowing guests the freedom to select their own preferred spot on the lush grass. Crucially, the campsite is designed for 12V power only, equipped with 12V power boxes featuring Grey Anderson plugs for lighting and basic 12V appliances. There is no 220V AC power available, so campers should be prepared with the appropriate connectors or their own battery systems. Each area has access to shared braai drums and garbage bins, and the open layout is suitable for all types of camping setups, from tents to off-road trailers.

Facilities are rustic yet well-maintained, featuring communal ablution blocks that combine modern convenience with a traditional touch. Hot water is provided through a mix of gas geysers and a "donkey boiler," where campers can light a small fire (wood supplied) to heat the water for a rewarding shower. The farm offers a variety of outdoor activities, including a lovely swimming area in the river, a jungle gym for children, and access to Wi-Fi.
