Montagu Caravan Park

Everything is exceptionally clean and very well maintained. You can really see that management takes pride in the facilities and the overall upkeep of the park.

If you are looking for a relaxed, fun, family-friendly camping experience — this is NOT the place. The atmosphere is extremely rigid, uptight and honestly feels more like a retirement complex than a campsite.

From the moment I wanted to make a booking it was complicated. I had to send numerous emails and had to follow up. Was not easy. They weren't very friendly ( this was only a hint of what was to come once you arrive at the camp)

We camp all over the Western Cape and have never experienced such a dull, lifeless environment. No vibe. No laughter. No children playing freely. Just a heavy feeling that you are constantly being watched and judged.

There are so many rules and regulations that it takes all the joy out of camping. The reason why you camp is to get away from the seriousness of life to relax and unwind. Instead of relaxing, you feel like you’re walking on eggshells the entire time. Management seems far more focused on policing guests and handing out “yellow cards” than creating a welcoming atmosphere. At some points, they were even rude. Not what you expect from a hospitality establishment.

At one point people were even taking videos of my children at the swimming pool — completely unacceptable and uncomfortable. It felt like a small-town culture of people with nothing better to do than monitor others.

We were literally the only family sitting around a fire on a Saturday night, chatting and laughing. At other campsites you hear children playing, families enjoying themselves, fires glowing, laughter echoing — that’s what camping is about. Here, it felt like fun was not allowed.

If you are retired and looking for silence and strict order, this might suit you. But if you are a family wanting to relax, enjoy nature and let your children be children — give this place a skip.

Even the children picked up the VIBE from management, and asked that we should never camp there again, we should rather go to other places we've been before.

There are far better, more welcoming and family-friendly campsites in the Western Cape.

I will not camp at this campsite again. We felt so unwelcome. This campsite is not open to a diverse group at all. Weird (and forcefully enforced) rules like not being allowed to string a washing line between the 2 big trees behind your tent on your own site. And this at a venue with multiple swimming pools and therefore lots of wet towels. White (yes I went there...) people taking videos of the coloured children in our mixed group - going up to them and sticking the phone in their faces. Telling them to laugh softer. The kids were so confused... If you are looking for a relaxing weekend, this is not it. And who doesn't have hand soap in their toilets?

This was our third time camping there, and we combined it with a stay in a cottage. All facilities, including the swimming pools, are always clean. All the staff are invaluable and ready to assist with anything. The atmosphere is excellent.
No music allowed, and that is great.
You will come back regularly once you have experienced Montagu Caravan Park for the first time.
I recommend this place with no reservation or a but...

I never rated any place I've visited before until now. This place is an absolute dream vacation spot. Even fully packed it feels like no one is there because everyone is quiet and peaceful. Everyone follows the rules and it makes everything better. It is very well maintained and workers and management works endlessly to ensure all is good. The prices are reasonable and my kids loved both the outdoor and indoor pools. The video on their website is a bit outdated as there are no longer a petting zoo nor is there trampolines and the cafe was closed in my time there but all in all I will share very fond memories for the rest of my life

The sites are very cramped though very clean and neat. The views are amazing. The choice of hot or cold pools are great for people looking for something for some quiet or for children. The toilets though very clean are very short on hand basins, and ours was unisex, which was not what some women felt comfortable with. The office staff are extremely efficient, and short on smiles. We will go back.
