Nestled on the green banks of the Sonderend River, Khomeesdrif Camping Site offers a genuine country escape just a short drive from the Overberg town of Riviersonderend. This is a place where families and nature lovers can truly unwind, surrounded by the gentle scenery of rolling hills and mature trees. The river is the heart of the campsite, providing a natural playground for swimming, tubing, and fishing, or simply a tranquil backdrop for an afternoon spent reading in a camp chair.

Accommodation here caters to traditional campers and those seeking a little more comfort. You can choose from over forty spacious campsites, each set on well-maintained lawns with welcome shade for those warm Cape days. For a solid-roof stay, two charming wooden cottages are available, sleeping five and four guests respectively, offering a cozy, self-catering base to return to after a day of exploring.

Beyond being a peaceful holiday spot, Khomeesdrif fosters a sense of community, occasionally hosting laid-back music events and friendly potjiekos competitions. It's this welcoming atmosphere that also makes it a lovely, rustic venue for small weddings or team-building events. We understand that pets are family, so well-behaved animal companions are welcome to join you with prior arrangement.

We enjoyed our stay and found the campsite to be safe and genuinely pet friendly. The surroundings are tranquil and ideal for a relaxed getaway. Please note there are no electrical power points, and water access is limited during the day. With proper planning, it’s a great spot to unwind.

The location is truly stunning, offering easy access to Cape Town, which adds to its appeal. The camp sites are adequate, providing a comfortable base for visitors. However, it may be beneficial to provide additional freezers for campers, as there is no electricity available, which is understandable, but having more freezer space would enhance the experience.

Following the recent flood, it appears that no clearing of the river has been carried out, which has resulted in limited space for kayaking. Additionally, accessing the water has become a challenge due to the lack of clear pathways. A more structured plan should be developed to improve accessibility and to create more space for kayaks, as the current setup makes it difficult for campers to enjoy the activity fully.

Despite these concerns, my overall experience was extremely enjoyable. I had the opportunity to meet many new people, and I will certainly be returning in the future.

We went to go camp at Khomeesdrif from end September till the 3rd of October 2024 and the weather were great for camping.
It's a quiet piece of farm just outside the town of Riviersonderend.

* Has it's own canoes and paddles to go canoe on the Sonderend River which is right next to the campsite, very helpful especially when the heat strikes.

* Has two ablution blocks with solar panels as well as gas for backup.

* Very nice setup for the kids (swing, slide, etc.) as well as an obstacle course.

* Besides the 50 campsites there are also two houses you can book.

* Catch and release fishing in the river.

* There is wood and ice available on the campsite and for R50 you get a HUGE bag of wood.

* One of the few campsites that is actually pet friendly.

* There is also an entertainment deck which I am not sure what it's used for.

A fantastic family holiday with our furkids. Camping on the river banks, kayaking safely down the river and open space for the doggies to run and play. Rykie is a fantastic host and bookings was simple and many a friendly phonecalls.

What a great place. No power and cell phone reception. Ablutions is tidy and clear. All bathrooms are unisex. Large grassed area with plots. Some plots with trees don't have grass. Plot size is good and some have fire pits. Best plots are the to closest to the boma on the river. Free use of kayaks on a large river swimming area. The river was slow flowing when we were there in November 2020, thanks to the good rain we had.
