Eagle Falls Country Lodge

We thought we had booked the veru private chalet perched on the top but found we were in a cabin alongside 5 others with a shared deck. However despite that it turned out to be a really nice stay. Amina was so kind and helpful and wonderful to deal with and they welcomed our dogs as if they were their own. The people we met were so nice and that turned the initial surprise into a lovely 2 night stay. The falls and pools are glorious.

Owner and staff are so lovely and accommodating. Stayed in the chalet and had the most incredible view of the waterfall. Hiking trails. Zipline into rock pools. Picnic site
Absolutely incredible and cannot wait to go back!

This breathtaking cabin had us mesmerised. We couldn’t believe our eyes at the beauty of the surroundings of this little treasure. The unit was well supplied for self catering and our family had a very comfortable 2 night stay. We will definitely be back when heading up in that direction. Friendly hosts and accommodating management. Highly recommend for family or for a couple getaway cuddling by the fireplace overlooking the waterfall.

I can only review the camp sites. I am giving my honest opinion and don’t attempt to discredit Eagle Falls Camping in any way.

Pros:
It is a fantastic location with great views and seemingly great hikes (we had no time for this unfortunately)
The reception and other staff are excellent
The ablutions has a central covered area with braai facilities, seating, etc which is a great idea

Cons:
The ablutions are VERY rustic with doors and fittings of poor quality finishings. The toilet windows cannot open to let fresh air in and it was hot!
The worst part: The men’s showers reminds me of army days (of even jail circumstances) with open showers in a row. There are some with ½ height cubicles, but this leaves a lot to be desired. Not the kind of thing most people will warm to!
The camp sites are very small and close together. I would hate to see how the ablutions would cope with all 70 camp sites filled!

As I said, the cabins might be a completely different story, but as far as camping is concerned it was dissapointing.

We camped at Eagle Falls in Nov 2023. Its an awesome place in terms of the location, the views and the tranquility of nature. The walks to the waterfall is worth the trouble, and in summer the natural pools will be a pleasant way of cooling off. The resort is also pet friendly, our 4-feet children enjoyed the trip. Just beware of snakes.

We used a normal road caravan, and enjoyed the stay in general. We parked on the large grassed area, not on the terraces (see first 2 pics below*). Despite the advice from Lodge Management, the road is bad and not fit for a normal road caravan. Next time I will use my bush-trailer. However, that will be a problem, as the owner will expect us to stand on the terraces on the far side of the resort. The layout of those terraces are not well thought through and planned in terms of camping, because they are too small, too narrow (see first 2 pics below). Access is very difficult (tight corners, etc.). It is impossible anyway to access with a normal road caravan. Plus, when parked in the middle, with campers both sides, one cannot get out, because the terraces are so narrow. Very impractical.

The facilities are generally run-down and not well maintained. Despite the fact that the owner confirmed that the ablutions are cleaned every day, including weekends, over the weekend we stayed there, no cleaning was done. I spoke to the Cleaner, she confirmed, she never works weekends. Luckily not too many campers that weekend, so was not a big problem for us, but, it will be a big problem if the camp is fully occupied.

Riaan (Lodge manager) went out of his way to make our stay pleasant, fixing the water supply and the wi-fi, etc. he was on-call 24 hrs, and made a huge difference. Its a pity that Riaan and Barbara left the resort at the end of Dec.

We enjoyed the stay, but wont go back there.
