Description

Dunharrow Campsite offers an enchanting escape that feels like stepping directly into a fantasy realm. Located within the whimsical "The Funny Farm Shire," this destination is famously designed with a Middle-earth theme that sparks the imagination of every visitor. The atmosphere is one of pure escapism, where the natural beauty meets a playful, creative spirit. It is the kind of place where you can shrug off the stresses of modern life and embrace the slower, more magical pace of a storybook setting.

This exclusive, single campsite is set on seasonal grass against a stunning backdrop of indigenous forest, providing a private sanctuary for nature lovers. It is a haven for travelers with four-legged companions, featuring a pet-friendly, fenced garden with a wide three-meter gate for easy access. The site is versatile enough to accommodate campervans, rooftop tents, off-road trailers, and small to medium caravans. To ensure a comfortable fit, the space is ideally suited for setups up to 6.5 meters long and 2.2 meters wide, with ample room for an awning or side tent to be unfurled under the trees.

The facilities are designed to enhance the outdoor experience while maintaining total privacy. You will have your own private ablutions right on-site, including an enclosed basin and toilet paired with an enclosed outdoor shower for a true "back-to-nature" feel. The dedicated kitchen area is well-equipped with a wash-up station, storage shelves, a work bench, and a bar fridge for your supplies. With both three-pin and round caravan plug points, as well as a private braai area in the garden, every detail is covered for a magical stay in the Shire.

What a delight to have found such a gem of a place to break our long journey home... thinking we'd only stay one night, we just had to stay a 2nd! Such gracious hosts, accommodating us and our 3 fur kids in so many ways! So much space for our dogs to roam and explore, the lonely mountain trail was enchanting! Really a beautifully thought out unique 'Shire', with all the detail, time and care, taken to ensure a super comfy and 'quirky' stay. Looooove the Tolkien theme, starting at middle earth gate!! Magical and a must for anyone with dogs and kids...a real fantasy world created! And new friends made while we stayed over... thank you!!

We had a lovely relaxing stay with our two dogs. The farm is peaceful and safe to walk with the dogs. It's also perfectly situated with lots of shops and activities nearby within a 15min driving distance.
We'll definitely be back for more visits!

We had a wonderful stay in the Arkenstone Cottage- comfortable, clean and convenient with everything you might need. The host, Tessa, was friendly and accommodating, allowing us to check in slightly earlier. We enjoyed the beautiful trail in their backyard and the quiet surroundings with birds in full song. We hope to be back soon for a longer stay!

Beautiful setting, cute bungalows, and the only place where your pets are relatively free to roam as long as they don't bother the farm animals. We would have given 4 stars if it wasn't for the extremely uncomfortable bed that bowed to the middle which left us with sore backs and little sleep. Also the shower head sprinkled water and the gas geyser kept flaming out leaving us standing in freezing water with soap in our eyes & hair! The hosts were also extremely pleasant and friendly!

Amazing house and location! Beautiful to sit on the verandah of the homely home and watch the world go by. Extra blankets, and an iron and something to play an African soundtrack on would be great additions to an otherwise perfect place.
