Gamtoos Ferry Hotel

Was not a bad experience but also was not impressiinable. Bathrooms were clean and massive shower cubicles. Can recommend installing a few more water taps in the camping area. We visited in December and would not visit again during that time, will rather come back when it is more quiet during off peak. The restaurant service though was pathetic. Waited almost an hour to order a drink. Then ordered a toasted sandwich which took more than an hour to arrive. Not very impressed. Hopefully it will be better when we return

My recent Sunday lunch at The Gamtoos Ferry Hotel was an experience that truly stands out—it was, in a word, incredible. What made it even more special was that it wasn't a standard buffet; it was a carefully prepared, individually served meal that showcased the best of fresh, quality cooking.

From the moment we arrived at the beautiful setting beside the Gamtoos River, we knew we were in for a treat. The atmosphere is charming, tranquil, and perfectly captures the relaxed coastal feeling of the Eastern Cape, making it an ideal spot for a leisurely lunch.

The food itself was the absolute highlight. The portions were plentiful, and every element on the plate was an absolute delight. The meal was evidently prepared with care, using ingredients that were exceptionally fresh and tasty. Whether you choose a traditional roast or one of their other main courses, the dedication to quality shines through. This was hearty, home-style cooking elevated by outstanding preparation, proving that a non-buffet Sunday lunch can offer both substance and finesse.

Beyond the perfect plate of food, the service was awesome. The staff were attentive, genuinely friendly, and efficient, ensuring we never felt rushed but were always well looked after. Their professionalism and warmth contributed immensely to the relaxed and pleasant atmosphere.

To top it all off, the entire dining experience offers fantastic value. The fact that such high-quality, generously portioned, and delicious food can be enjoyed in such a beautiful setting with great service, while remaining affordable, is truly remarkable.

Booked 2025 Christmas Lunch for my family of 3 which was our second Christmas Lunch at this venue - the first visit was Christmas 2023. Because the first visit was amazing, we decided to return, but sadly, this lunch turned out to be a huge disappointment...lunch was started late, there were many guests that never got starters because they ran out of food, the main course was 'sub standard' in my opinion because all the meat & poultry was dried out with no gravy available. Together with this poor food, all 3 of us ended up with stomach issues that night & into the following day. We read on social media that many other guests suffered from the same symptoms. To cap it it all, the price of their soft drinks was insane...R48 for a 200ml tin of Appletizer !! The positive side to our visit was that the young lady waitress who attended our table was excellent & tried hard to keep us calm.....thats it, never will Gamtoos Ferry Hotel see us again which is a great pity because the outside settings are really beautiful & tranquil.

Lovely location, but restaurant always runs out of food. This December no pizza bases when they have a pizza special. No cheese for nachos and they tell us this half hour after ordering. Last year they had no bacon for breakfast. Stay away

This was the perfect ending to our weekend getaway! Check-in was so easy, the room is spacious with everything you need. The views are breathtaking, especially when you catch the sunset. Just one thing that was not so great was the shower. I had a battle with either boiling or freezing water! But that aside I would most definitely stay again. The breakfast we had in the morning was really affordable and delicious. Truely our moneys worth.
