Another fantastic holiday in another awesome place. Love the rural nature of the Wild Coast & that this was one of the places not spoilt with litter & neatly kept.
After driving to Kai River's mouth, I realized just how lovely Morgan Bay felt. Same area but feels totally different. Morgan Bay is warm, inviting, and friendly with a generally safe feeling. Kai River mouth, not so much.
One great place in Kai mouth is the tiny butcher - Kai Mouth Butchery run from a gentleman's home. By no means a boutique store, but the droerwors, pork & lamb we purchased was top notch and reasonably priced.
Morgan Bay caravan Park & hotel were beautifully kept & the hotel feels more like a luxury, warm B&B than a hotel but with all the frills of a top notch establishment.
Had a meal at their restaurant & was a good experience. Hotel runs the caravan park and very is done in a friendly, helpful yet professional manner. Richard, the 3rd generation of a family run establishment, has raised the standard in the area and gets full marks for what they have achieved.
Campsites themselves vary from those with stunning views to shaded trees most with great lawn for the feet.
Ablutions facilities in great nick, with good pressure showers, lots of hot water & kept clean & neat. Laundry facilities are available & there are people who are willing to do everything for you - from laundry, dishes to cleaning & setting up for a fee.
There's even a local who sells fruit & veggies of the day who comes round selling fresh produce - been doing it since a teen & he is now part of the old furniture.
The weather is something else & the wind can litterally blow from 4 different directions in one day & vary from absolutely still to moderate - that's in June anyway. We even got to experience a thunderstorm over that skimmed past us one night with thunder & and lightning, giving one fresh perspective on the Creator. We thought - WOW! just to hear from a local that was but a small taste of what can unfold.
The ability to access the beach and safe lagoon in 5 steps with views to die for make for pure holiday bliss (ask the children) & it's so easy to keep an eye on them & there safety or just to call them back for a meal or refreshment.
Long walks, exploring, hikes, trail runs, canoing, bird watching, swimming, dune sliding even surfing or just soaking up the views are standard practice & food for the soul.
Then there's the views from the famous Morgan Bay cliffs, she'll collecting, rock pools, plenty of paid activities, sunsets & sun rises that leave you awe inspired to add to the list.
This place is a true gem!
Look part of our time here was over a public holiday which was very "geselig" & the playing of louder varied music didn't leave me thrilled but didn't dampen our enthusiasm. Not sure of the music rule but for the quiet seekers out of season may provide a true tranquil experience.
During the holidays you may need to pack your "good vibration shoes"
Only other noise is the main town Pump near the abutuon that switches On intermittently & could prove to be hard on the ears of those close to the building or light sleepers.
Temperatures in June were moderate & comfortable with not to much wind. The ocean was not as warm as expected for this older toppie but my son had no issues.
If you love photography best you bring a big SD card.
Living in CT it's a long way away, given all the lovely attractions we have on our doorstep but make no mistake it's only a question of time before we will be heading back.
PS. Pricing of sites, groceries, hiring etc is most reasonable given how out of the way the place is & all you can enjoy.
