Thota Lodge

We had such a great time at Thota Lodge! The landscapes are absolutely beautiful, and we saw so many animals. We also went for walks through the savanna and really enjoyed the experience.

The hosts are incredibly welcoming, and if you have any questions at all, they’ll be there to help and make sure you have the best stay possible.

New: There’s now a coffee shop on site where you can buy honey, meat and handmade knives, as well as enjoy a coffee. All while taking in a beautiful view of the savanna.

I can't say enough good things about Thota Lodge and the people that run it.
It is a beautiful location right on the river that they have put great effort into making it an amazing getaway from the city.

Rooms are clean and setup well for a longer stay which we did as i was there for work.

Location is great with amazing view and nice setup giving you a place to work with plugins and wifi to work at the bar top. This along with cold beers are great while either working or relaxing.

The hosts are super friendly and are quick to accommodate any requests or needs. They have a cute little shop with local products and souvenirs all of which are a great way to remember staying there.

Highly recommend staying here for a getaway or to use as your home base while you explore the area. You can tell the passion and devotion to the lodge they have created that makes for a great home away from stay.

Thota Lodge is quite a unique and special place. As a self-catering lodge, it offers everything you need to feel at home, topped off with an amazing view over the Kalahari. It’s a great place for anyone who loves being outdoors and enjoying nature, while still having the comfort of proper, African-style accommodation. The sunsets are stunning, and birdlife is definitely busy almost around the clock - perfect spot for birding activities. The fireplace is inviting for great braai nights under the African sky — which, by the way, is absolutely breathtaking out there.

A stunning oasis of silence in the Kalahari. No internet, no electricity (solar-power only), no people. Just a rustic, offgrid camp and a thatched chalet with 360 degree views of nature.
We camped at Bessiebos, and stayed in the Camelthorn chalet. Both provided a divine break from the modern world's madness.

The rooms are minimalistic in the best possible way — clean, thoughtfully designed, and equipped with everything you need. No unnecessary clutter, just a calming, functional space that lets the natural beauty outside take center stage.

And what a view it is! The scenery is absolutely magnificent — vast open landscapes, endless skies, and the kind of quiet that lets you hear your own thoughts. Being surrounded by nature in such a pure, unspoiled setting was deeply relaxing and soul-fulfilling. It’s the kind of place that reminds you to slow down, breathe, and just be present.
