Kheis Riverside Lodge

What an oasis along the Orange river wine route! We were welcomed by Spook and JJ and started our stay here with sunset swim in the gently flowing Orange River. Shallow places and deep spaces for some excellent swimming exercise after a long hot day on the road. There is a small sandy beach and rocks for sun bathing. Lovely looking chalets and a great deck. The camping spots are shaded and grassed with neat and tidy kitchen wash up and bathroom facilities. One can only but admire the pioneer spirit that it must take to live and create a tourist business in such a remote location. Firewood was thoughtfully left next to braai facilities and we as campers really appreciate the extra and normally not provided table and chairs. Nearby electrical points made charging easy. Excellent wifi facilities. I would not want to have camped anywhere else. Thank you Spook and JJ!

A beautiful place to camp along the Orange River. It is well maintained with all the necessary amenities. Friendly, helpful staff, who provide meals on request.

Honestly, I dont expect myself to be back here soon. If you want to go here camping because the website looked like a pretty decent place, don't waste your time. The website promises with a lovely restaurant and bar, tubing and canoeing and braai ammenities available. We are avid campers so from the websites view this place was perfect. We spesifically looked for a place with a bar because we wanted to watch the Springbok rugby on Saturday night. We called 2 weeks ahead and were told they only take bookings via email. So we sent them an email amd patiently waited for a response. On Monday(4 days before our arrival) we still hadn't heard anything so we called again. The lady said they do have space available for us. R200 per person per night. Upon arrival we were met with some very unwilling and uninterested faces. We were planning on doing the canoeing or tubing on Saturday morning. The lady told us then that the tubing was not available yet and the one canoe was broken and the other one stolen. This was quite a bummer since we specifically chose this place for this reason. We also told her we would like to watch the rugby at the restaurant on Saturday night by which she responded with the restaurant also not being operational currently. Our hopes to have a fun camping weekend in which we drove 450 kilometers for this site soon made me realise we might have made a mistake. The campsite number 3 is located right by the septic tank outlet and every time a small wind blew we were met with horrible smells of years of human waste and sewerage. The smell was horrible. The campsite did have a braai but the braai was not even cleaned and the old dirty remains of someones previous fire was still left in the braai. Like they could have atleast cleaned it up. The bathrooms was poorly maintained and not really clean. The shower head is so small but the curtain doesnt keep the water in so the whole flpor gets soaked. The pool was dirty and green. Its like someone had a great idea, started it and then in the middle of having everything done just decided nah. Honestly I hope someone buys this place and fixes it up because there is so much potential, if only the owner was willing...so sad

Definitely our go to when traveling the NC, love the tranquility, peace and being so close to nature. Well equipped chalets, aircon and heated beds offers a home away from home. Thank you for the hospitality, good food and care!

This is a perfect place to just go and relax. We had a great weekend at the lodge. The accomodation was perfect and the service was excellent. From just relaxing to fishing and even canuing. There is chalets for those who do not want to camp and there are camping spots with beautifull views. Campsite 13 is next to the river which provides amazing scenery. Spokie was an great host and very friendly. The friendly staff also made sure the unit was cleaned and ready for the day ahead. Will definitly recomend Kheis riverside lodge and we will visit again in the nearby future.
