For the more self-sufficient nature lover, the "Eco Veld Camp" offers a more private and immersive experience. This area consists of a handful of single, exclusive campsites, each with its very own private ablution block, a braai stand, and a power point - perfect for off-road trailers and those who value their own space. This camp is beautifully situated just a stone's throw from a waterhole, providing a constant parade of birds and other game that come down to drink, creating your own private, live wildlife show. Had a very nice stay. The chalet was kitted out with everything we needed. The sundowner drive was very nice, saw lots of animals and critters. We then went on the scorpion hunt and mowed all found it very interesting. The meerkat are just too adorable as well. Will definitely go back for a visit again.

After 6 glorious days at the Kgalagadi Transfrontier park, my choice of Kalahari Trails was really only a matter of a convenient night stop over before heading back to Jo'burg. Turned out to be an inspired choice. It's a fascinating place and we particularly appreciated the focus on conservation and the scientific approach to meerkat conservation, inspired of course by the late Professor Asa. The accommodation was comfortable and relaxed and everyone was very helpful--as it's basically self catering, dare I mention that Anita braaied us delicious lamb chop? Mareli's guided walk was highly informative, and in addition to eagle eyes, she really knows her stuff as a professional naturalist. All four of us octogenarians, who've been to many places, agreed this was a unique experience.
Mahalo nui loa as we say in Hawai'i--Richard will understand!

BUT place is full of character, people are nice and very welcoming. Sunset drive = as pleasurable for them as for yourself = makes the difference. Quality/price = good.

We had a great time camping at Kalahari Trails, a short 25 minute drive to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.

The camp has two toilets and two showers and a kitchen area, with a “donkey” fire geyser providing hot water.

The camp site is completely out of site of any other manmade structures and the conservancy has plenty of game on it, giving a real sense of being out in the Kalahari wilderness (no hyenas or large cats so it’s perfectly safe)!

A bonus was two aardvark sitings on the self-drive 4x4 night-drives we undertook on the conservancy!

Richard, the owner, was always onsite a few kilometers away from the camp, enthusiastically engaging and assisting where required during our stay.

In summary, a great way of authentically experiencing the Kalahari!
