Recently stayed at Clivia Plaashuis for an outdoor camping trip, and it was a genuinely peaceful and refreshing experience.
What stood out most was the beautiful grassy camping area and the overall sense of quiet and calm. It’s the kind of place where you can really switch off, with little to no signal, it gave me a much-needed break from screens and everyday noise.
The views over the sugar cane valleys and surrounding hills are stunning.
The ablution facilities were impressively clean, with excellent water pressure and consistently hot gas-heated showers - a real comfort when camping. I also appreciated the thoughtful touches, like ample hooks in the showers and creative décor elements, very well lit, that show care and effort.
The forest walk and dam area add to the experience, and even though the dam is currently quite overgrown with reeds, it still adds a natural charm.
One of the highlights was the sense of space and privacy. Even when near other campers, it still felt open and connected to nature. The lower campsite, without power, offers a more rustic experience with a lovely outdoor shower and toilet - perfect if you want something even closer to nature.
The owner clearly puts a lot of effort into the place and was very helpful and welcoming, always willing to assist and make the stay as comfortable as possible. That personal care really adds to the experience.
If I had one gentle suggestion, it would be around the shared indoor space that’s currently quite open-ended. It has a lot of potential to become a warm, communal area - especially in colder months - where guests could relax, read, play games, or just gather. With a bit of development, it could really become the heart of the camp.
Overall, this is a place with real heart, thoughtful details, and a lot of potential. It already offers a calm and restorative escape, and I’m looking forward to seeing how it evolves over time.
