Description

Anchor Creek Marina offers a secure and practical base for boating and fishing enthusiasts in the quiet town of Deneysville. As its name suggests, the campsite is part of an active marina, giving it a distinct atmosphere focused on water-based recreation on the vast Vaal Dam. The entire property is well-lit and secure, providing peace of mind for guests, especially those with boats and valuable fishing gear.

The intimate campsite consists of just 15 stands, ensuring it never feels overcrowded. A key feature is that all sites are paved, providing a clean and stable all-weather surface for any caravan or motorhome, and are set within a well-shaded area. The setup is straightforward and functional. Campers share conveniently located water and electrical points, so it’s essential to pack your own extension lead of up to 30 metres to connect to the grid.

The ablution facilities are clean and well-maintained, providing reliable hot and cold water. A thoughtful touch is the inclusion of a bath in the ladies' section for a proper soak after a day on the water. However, the main draw for many is the excellent fishing available directly from the resort's waterfront. You can set up your rods and spend hours casting a line just a short stroll from your caravan, making it an incredibly convenient and relaxing angler's retreat.

The dam is beautiful and the boat ride was nice, and so is the skipper.

The owner and his son, on the other hand, have bad attitudes. They talk down to guests and do not make one feel welcome. Very rude. They should learn some manners and basic people skills if they want visitors to return. It is evident from many previous reviews.

The rest of the resort also eeds some TLC. Ablution facilities outdated and smelly.

AWESOME! We are in the Caravan Park for December 2025. The owner is very knowledgeable about Dam and very helpful. John is great with all our needs. Restaurant has various dishes catering for everyone's taste buds. If I have to recommend anything it would be the Carl De Sol Chicken or Prawn curry. Both very Tasty. The Full/half Lemon & Herb Chicken. NEW ON THE MENU.

We stayed in the log cabin with five adults and one child. It’s very basic, but since our trip was mainly for fishing, we weren’t expecting anything fancy.

John, who I assume is the manager, was incredibly friendly and helpful — he’s definitely a big reason we’d consider coming back.

The owner, on the other hand, left a lot to be desired. Not very friendly, offered minimal assistance, and as a guest, you’d at least expect a simple “good morning” or “How are you enjoying the dam?”

The room itself was basic and a bit dusty but still livable. I had to rinse down the shower and wipe the “tent” area next to the beds as there were quite a few cobwebs and sand. The kitchen is equipped with basic cutlery and crockery, but I’d recommend bringing your own, especially mugs — the ones provided are quite small if you enjoy a proper cup of coffee.

Despite the simplicity, we all agreed we’d definitely be back. The fishing was fantastic, and you’re literally right on the dam — exactly what we came for.

Been coming here a lot with friends and family. All staff are friendly and helpfull. The food is really good and you can taste thats its very fresh. Ive had the burgers, curry and steak and its always well worth it and very reasonable prices. Well worth the recomendation for a great meal with beautiful scenery . Also amazing sunsets.
