Situated about 15km outside of Robertson, Rivierzicht River Resort offers cabins, bush camps, and camping options. Our group stayed at campsite B and C.
The campsite itself is pieceful, picturious, and spacious and we had a lovely time staying here.
The campsite consists of a sprawling grass lawn running right up to the water’s edge. A few acacia and other trees provide some shade at the sides, and each site features a small rustic ramada for partial shade.
There is a movable braai (half an oil drum) by the river’s edge. The braai does not come with a grid or rod. This made our first evening challenging until we realised we could lay one folding grid across the drum to support the other. I highly recommend bringing a steel rod or two folding grids to make cooking easier.
The ablutions consisted of three bathroom units each having a shower, toilet and sink. They were clean and spacious with good water pressure and plenty of warm water. However, there are a few quirks. There is only one hook next to the shower stall. Because the toilet is right next to the shower in the same unit, the floor gets wet and dirty quite fast. Bottom line and pro tip, remember your "plakkies"/ flip-flops. Additionally, there is no communal washing area or sink, so all the dishwashing needs to be done at the campsite water taps.
Some pro tips:
• Water: There is no drinking water on-site. Bring your own 5L bottles, or you can buy water, ice, and firewood from the farm.
• Mosquitoes: There were a few mosquitos at night so remember your Tabart, Peaceful sleep, Vanilla spray, Wild away, or watever insect repellent you prever.
Suggestions for Improvement:
A few small changes by management could really elevate the camping experience, e.g. fixing the wonky tap at campsite C, adding a communal kitchen/scullery area, providing a rod for the braai drums, and adding extra hooks in the bathrooms.
Despite the minor maintenance needs, it’s a wonderful spot. I hope this review helped.
