As its name perfectly suggests, Op-die-Plaas Camp offers a genuine, unpretentious "on the farm" experience, beautifully cradled between the Klein Swartberg and the Elandsberg mountain ranges. This is a destination for the true adventurer, a place of dramatic landscapes and elemental beauty. Due to its high altitude, the farm has a unique four-seasons character; the summer months are pleasantly mild, while the winters can be "Snow Cold," occasionally blanketing the landscape in a magical layer of white. It's a rugged and beautiful escape in any season.
The farm's most celebrated neighbour is the legendary Seweweekspoort, with the famous northern entrance just seven kilometers away. The road through this magnificent "poort" is a breathtaking adventure in itself, a well-maintained gravel track that takes you through unspoiled nature with more than twenty river crossings. The farm is also the perfect base for the ultimate hiking challenge: a trek up to the summit of Seweweekspoort Peak, the highest point in the entire Western Cape.
The camping experience is authentically rustic and in perfect harmony with the wild surroundings. You can find your own perfect spot, whether it's under the shade of the tall blue gum trees or out on an open patch of grass. The entire camp is supplied with pure, fresh mountain water, a true taste of the pristine environment. The surrounding network of gravel roads is a paradise for 4x4 enthusiasts and mountain bikers, while the remote location and lack of light pollution provide a breathtaking stage for some of the brightest, most brilliant stargazing you will ever witness.
