Amber Lagoon is a true oasis in the semi-desert landscape of the Klein Karoo, offering a wonderfully unique and personal guest farm experience. Bordered by the Swartberg mountains and situated near the Gamka Nature Reserve, this is a place of profound peace and natural beauty. It’s here that the German owner fell in love with the area, and he now invites you to discover its magic for yourself, surrounded by ostrich farms and classic Karoo vistas.

The heart of the property is its enormous, ten-hectare garden, a labour of love filled with countless succulents, indigenous plants, and mature trees. This lush sanctuary attracts an incredible variety of birdlife, making it a paradise for birdwatchers and nature lovers. For campers, a selection of spacious, grassed sites are nestled within this beautiful garden, offering a cool and shaded retreat from the Karoo sun.

The camping experience is relaxed and comfortable, supported by clean ablution facilities. The social heart of Amber Lagoon is its large, crystal-clear swimming pool - a perfect and refreshing escape on a hot day. It’s an ideal base for exploring Route 62, Oudtshoorn, and Calitzdorp, allowing you to return to a place of genuine tranquility at the end of the day.

We loved our stay at Amber Lagoon and would 100% go again. Felt like arriving at an oasis in the middle of the Karoo. Very friendly staff who let us change rooms when we saw how great the Safari tents looked. Perfect detour if you are doing the Garden Route and wanted to see the desert as well as the coast

Disappointing:
Location is not ideal for a car
Got a different house than the one booked and got offered an alternative room which wasn’t clean or ready for occupancy.
Wasn’t disclosed on property information that showers are cold water
No private bathroom
Checked out in less than 30 minutes of checking in and accommodation refuses to refund

Very off the grid and outdoorsy living not classified as “glamping”

We had such a lovely time at amber lagoon! It’s a beautiful place, best sunsets and stargazing. The campsite was perfect, nice shaded spots available. The bathrooms and (hot) showers are very clean. Super nice pool to cool down. The neighbour has ostriches which is nice if you like watching them. There are also many lovely birds flying around. The whole place is decorated with a lot of love and care, highly recommend going!

One of the most amazing places I have had the pleasure of visiting.
We stayed in the comfortable tents to have the more rustic experience.

The salt pool, set among the trees offers a chilled out bird watching experience, and welcome relief from the desert sun!
Awesome crepes for breakfast and for dinner, a combo of Schnitzel and ostrich ragout, perfectly complimented with a drink of your choice!

Great conversations, jokes and friendly banter with your German hosts, you will most certainly want to come back for more!

We where travelling from Cape Town to Port Edward had not arrange a stop over as we drove as far as we could before stopping. Arrived to a warm welcome by Susanna and her friendly dog Anna
We had a most enjoyable evening. Susanna made us mince pancakes for supper with no trouble.
Even though we had not booked that to me was exceptional. I recommend Amber Lagoon.
Truly a pet friendly place. Safe and secure.
