Perfectly positioned just 28 kilometres from the Baviaans Wilderness Area, it serves as an ideal and peaceful basecamp for exploring one of South Africa’s greatest natural treasures.

This is a campsite designed for the true nature lover. With just a handful of exclusive sites, the atmosphere is intimate and uncrowded, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the natural surroundings. Embracing a true off-grid philosophy, there is no electricity at the sites. This invites a return to the simple rhythms of nature: days spent watching the abundant birdlife and evenings passed around a crackling campfire under a breathtaking canopy of stars.

While the experience is rustic, essential comforts are well-catered for. The campsite is serviced by clean, tiled ablution facilities with reliable hot showers and flush toilets, and pure rainwater is available for drinking. If you seriously need a break from the busy city or just need peace and quiet, you will most definitely find it at Geelkrans. What a breathtaking place that makes you want to stay just a little longer. From the clean river which we enjoyed to swim in to all the bird life and the best treat... the call of the Fish Eagle. Ablutions are neat and clean, nice warm showers and there is a wash up area for your dirty dishes. The hostess, Laurika is such an amazing person, makes you feel so welcome and right at home. She went out of her way to ensure we were comfortable and enjoyed our stay. Would definitely be seeing Geelkrans again soon!

Our hostess Luarika came to greet us at our tent which was lovely. Its a sunning quiet place with birds everywhere and the backdrop of the mountain is breathtaking. Good place for some R&R.

What an awesome breakaway in a tranquil and beautiful place. Would recommend it to any one wanting to get away from it all. The owner is very friendly and goes out her way to make sure we are comfortable. The ablutions are also very clean. Would definitely come back again.

We had a lovely relaxing time. The campsite is neat and tidy. Ablutions are clean and we had hot showers every night. The host is very friendly and go out of her way to ensure that her guests are comfortable. Beautiful scenery.
I would highly recommended this campsite.

I don't easily rate a five star but this gem deserves the honor. Just a hour and a half from Port Elizabeth Geelkrans in Patensie offers camping in tranquility next to the Gamtoos River. Just make sure to be prepared and have solar or gas fridge as this is off grid. The owners are excellent hosts and are always prepared to assist and the campsites are well kept. The ablution looks good and runs on solar for light and gas for hot water and are also well kept. A hike is also available but must be arranged with owners. When nature calls Geelkrans will definitely not disappoint.
