Utshwayelo Kosi Mouth Lodge

From the booking process, communication, arrival, camping spots, facilities, food, service and proximity to Kosi Mouth, all were Excellent. What makes Utshwayelo Amazing is their service, it is Top Tier. Dealing with both Yolanda and Mike during the booking process was effortless, they both answered all my questions with ease and it was a pleasure to deal with them. Upon our arrival, Anna greeted us with a warm and hospitable smile. Three young gents helped us set up camp, they were eager and so helpful. We met Enock the following day, he greeted us with a warm, firm handshake, arranged a different braai and had it setup in our camp site. All the staff were friendly and very helpful. The camp site is well proportioned and the ablutions always neat, clean and spacious with great water pressure in the showers. They have a lovely, well stocked bar and use an honesty system. There's a refreshing swimming pool with loungers to relax on. They have a boma area with a firepit and more braais. Their restaurant serves delicious, well prepared, hearty food, Anna and her team do a great job with the cooking. We had a lovely week away with you, Thank you for your wonderful hospitality.

The only negative I have, and it's not a reflection on Utshwayelo, is the car guards at the mouth, they are pushy and demanding, and what is given just never seems to be enough nor appreciated. Thank you.

We recently had the privilege of spending time at Utshwayelo Kosi Bay Mouth Lodge, and it was an experience that truly captured the wild beauty of South Africa’s coastline.

During February, part of The Nature Conservation Institute team camped at the lodge, and from the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by a peaceful, environment that perfectly reflects the unique character of Kosi Bay. The setting is exceptional — surrounded by coastal forest.

The campsites were well-maintained and thoughtfully positioned to give a sense of privacy while still being close enough to essential facilities. Everything was clean and functional.

The area itself is rich in biodiversity, making it ideal for anyone interested in wildlife, photography, or simply reconnecting with nature.

The staff were friendly, helpful, and clearly passionate about the area, adding to the overall experience. Whether you’re an adventurer, a conservation enthusiast, or just looking for a quiet escape, this is a destination that delivers.

Utshwayelo Kosi Bay Mouth Lodge offers more than just a place to stay — it provides a genuine connection to one of South Africa’s most special ecosystems.

Kosi Bay Mouth Lodge: More lights could be added to the lodge; it is quite dark. A kettle in the tent would be nice. It should be indicated more clearly to really do your shopping in advance. There is no food for sale and limited choice of drinks.

Offering coffee/tea with dinner would be a nice as well.

People is very kind and helpful!

If you are planning to take a trip to this side of SA, you wont make any mistake staying here! We had the best time! They made our stay so easy, we booked for breakfast, and for the mornings we went out early they made us lunchpacks instead. We stayed in ons of the turtle huts, cleaned daily by the most friendly staff. Mike helped us navigate our way to the mouth and they arrange the permits at the front desk. Easy peasy holiday! Love the place will come back for sure! Thanks Mike and the TEAM. It was amazing.

Utshwayelo is located right at the gate to the Kosi Bay Mouth, it has an amazing location.

Expect a rustic campsite and ablutions.

That being said, we had a wonderful time. The Kosi Bay Mouth may be the most beautiful place in South Africa, we snorkelled at the estuary in the mouth, unguided, and saw many beautiful fish and swam with the kids for hours.

Kosi Bay is a must visit!
