Tucked away in a rugged valley of the majestic Olifants River Mountains, Beaverlac is a sanctuary for those who hear the call of the wild. This is more than just a campsite; it’s an invitation to disconnect from the modern world and plug into the raw, unspoiled beauty of the Western Cape. The journey from the nearby town of Porterville is part of the experience, as the tar gives way to dirt roads that wind you deeper into a world of dramatic rock formations and indigenous fynbos. It’s a place that feels remote and secluded, offering a genuine sense of escape for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. The true magic of Beaverlac lies in its pristine mountain streams, which carve their way through the landscape, creating a network of spectacular waterfalls and rock pools. The main activity here is exploration. Spend your days following the winding trails, discovering one secluded pool after another, each offering a chance to swim in refreshingly cool, clear mountain water. The journey is as rewarding as the destination, with breathtaking views around every corner. For the more energetic, the terrain provides an exciting challenge for mountain biking, while every visitor can enjoy the simple pleasure of finding a private spot to relax by the water. The accommodation at Beaverlac is designed to complement the natural surroundings. The campsites are generously spaced, allowing you to find your own piece of tranquility under a vast canopy of stars, far from city lights. For those who prefer a solid roof over their heads without sacrificing the rustic charm, simple cabins offer a comfortable alternative. While the camp itself feels like a world of its own, it also serves as a great base for exploring the rich cultural heritage of the surrounding Swartland and Cederberg regions, with their historic towns and unique local character, before returning to your peaceful haven in the mountains.

22 Waterfalls lives up to its name, offering one of the most unique and adventurous farm stays in the Western Cape. Proclaimed as a private nature reserve, this working farm is beautifully situated at the foot of the Olifantsrivier Mountains near Porterville. It’s an accessible escape, just an hour and a half from Cape Town, where you can immerse yourself in a landscape of pristine fynbos, rugged mountains, and, of course, an incredible series of waterfalls. The main attraction, and the reason for its famous name, is the spectacular hiking trail. This trail winds its way up the gorge, leading you past a staggering 22 individual waterfalls, each with its own unique character. The camping experience here is wonderfully authentic and back-to-basics, perfectly matching the rugged, natural environment. Beyond the famous trail, the farm offers plenty more to do. You can try your hand at bass fishing in the farm dams or explore the property on dedicated mountain bike trails, which include both technical single-track and more relaxed, family-friendly routes. As a working farm, there are also plenty of farm animals for children to see, making it a complete and unforgettable country adventure.
