Home to 2 pet-friendly campsites spread across towns like Hammanskraal, Pretoria, and Bronkhorstspruit, The Tshwane Metropolitan Area is a district located in the northern region of the Gauteng province. The landscape is defined by a mix of rolling grassy plains, rocky ridges, and sheltered valleys that support a variety of indigenous vegetation. The regional economy is anchored by the administrative and political hub of the country, complemented by a large automotive manufacturing sector, corporate services, and research institutions. The environment features expansive botanical gardens, nature reserves, and significant heritage sites. These geographic attributes provide accessible areas for game viewing, hiking, and exploring historical monuments within the dynamic blend of urban development and protected natural habitats.
The province of Gauteng sits on the high-altitude plateau of the Highveld, providing a varied landscape for tent and caravan camping. Despite its compact size, the region features accessible outdoor escapes, particularly around major water systems like the Vaal River and Roodeplaat Dam, where waterfront caravan parks are frequently visited. To the north, the terrain shifts into classic bushveld, offering rustic campsites and off-grid caravan stands near local nature reserves. The western region includes rocky ridges and limestone caves, providing shaded, tree-filled sites. Campers here experience a climate of hot summer days that typically end with heavy afternoon thunderstorms, followed by dry, frosty winters. The local geography makes the province a reliable base for weekend camping trips, fishing excursions, and hiking along elevated nature trails.

Located in the Leeuwkloof Valley near Cullinan, Dikgomo Cottages offers a rustic, farm-style retreat that feels worlds away from the nearby bustle of Pretoria and Johannesburg. This destination is a haven for those who enjoy a back-to-basics approach to the outdoors, set against a backdrop of indigenous Nguni cattle and the rolling Transvaal Highveld. The atmosphere here is deeply rooted in the peace of farm life, where the evening quiet is typically only interrupted by the distant call of a jackal or the hoot of a resident owl. The property features an intimate selection of sites, each thoughtfully designed to provide a sense of total seclusion. One of the standout features of this location is the focus on privacy and security; the sites are individually fenced, making it an exceptional choice for campers traveling with dogs. Your "fur-children" can roam freely and safely within your own large, demarcated area while you relax by the fire. Each site is equipped with its own private ablution block and a basic kitchenette, ensuring you don’t have to share facilities with anyone else. The energy here is largely off-grid, utilizing solar power for lighting and gas for cooking and hot water. While there is a shared splash pool located a short walk from the camping areas, the real draw is the "Dairy Walk," a scenic trail that winds through the farm and allows for a gentle exploration of the local flora and fauna.
