Onrus caravan Park has always been our go to and favourite place to go for a quick getaway, and because it is safe and Obviously Davies Pool...
We stayed at Onrus Caravan Park from Sunday 15 February to Friday 20 February and unfortunately our experience was extremely disappointing...the disappointment was a topic of discussion with a few campers around us, and all felt the same concern, the difference is, some done raise concerns to management as 80% of the time, there is always some sort of excuse, they rather just don't come back
During our entire stay, the rubbish bins were emptied only once. 5 days and bins only cleared once... in the heat the overflowing bins attract flies... Our braai area was never cleaned, and the general upkeep of the park has clearly deteriorated. The grass is overgrown and the grounds looked neglected.
The ablution facilities were shocking at the bottom end at Davies Pool... The bathrooms were dirty, and visibly unhygienic. Cleaning staff appeared disinterested, even sighing while working, and more concerning was their cleaning method: the same mop used for toilets was used to clean the shower areas. This is unacceptable from a hygiene perspective. If actually cleaned properly and elbow grease and proper chemicals are used, these would look brand new... trust me, i owned a cleaning services, its about managing staff and checking their work
The past 3 times we camped, its more important for the cleaning staff to have smoking competitions outside the ablution blocks, than actually cleaning, and this is not the 1st time... this is the case 90% Of the time... Any ablution facilities should smell of cleaning chemicals, especially at a camp site... but no.
My husband became severely ill during our stay and likely contracted norovirus from the ablutions, he was not the only one either, a few male camp goers were ill... Our camping trip ended up costing an additional R1,200 in medication due to illness — something no guest should have to endure because of poor sanitation.
At R400 per night, one expects basic cleanliness and proper maintenance. What exactly is it that the cleaning staff do all day... i came back from the chemist and low and behold, they all sat on the bench outside the office and ablutions smoking
It is also disheartening when one is excited to come camp and switch of for a couple of days, then the 1st face you greet all friendly is miserable and hardly greets you, because it is hard work and effort to open/lift the boom
It is heartbreaking to see what was once a lovely caravan park deteriorate to this level. Management urgently needs to address cleanliness, staff supervision, and overall maintenance
One compliment though... Deon is the absolute best and always will be. He needs a medal
